EQUAL HEALTH INDIA TRIP
Briony, our Balwyn receptionist, has just returned from a very successful two weeks in India with the overseas aid group "Equal Health". This was Briony's second trip with Equal Health.
'Our base for this trip was in Urappakkam, just south of Chennai. We were kept very busy, with long queues for our services in each village that we travelled to.'
During the camp Briony fitted free glasses to over 1000 people and assisted with sight-restoring cataract surgery for another 58!
Sue had been planning to go on this camp too but unfortunately had to withdraw at the last minute due to a serious family illness.
STAFF CHANGES
We are very sorry to be saying adieu to optometrist Prerna Bhatia, who has been with us only a short time. Prerna is getting married in March and will be relocating with her husband. We wish them all the very best for their future together.
We are indeed pleased to introduce optometrist Colette Parkinson, who comes to us from across the Tasman Sea! Colette has a keen interest in both children's vision and contact lenses, and she will be continuing post graduate studies in these areas during 2010 whilst working full-time with us, mainly at our Blackburn practice.
We are also pleased to introduce 3rd year optometry student Regina Leung. Regina and Lacey Strachan will both be helping the reception teams on Saturdays and at other busy times.
CHILDREN'S VISION
Now that the 2010 school year is well and truly under way, it's a good time to remind parents of the strong link between children's vision and learning, and the importance of regular eye examinations for students.
Remember, "Good Grades Begin With Good Vision"
Vision problems in children are often subtle and can be difficult for parents and teachers to spot, and are often missed at school screenings, so ring us for an appointment for your child, particularly if there are any concerns regarding your child's academic progress.
